She was a Painter
04:03
|
|||
She gave us all the colors we'd never seen before:
bending light with a smile and nod.
She was a painter, she made my portrait
fanged and feathered like an Aztec god.
I AM A TYRANT!
I AM A MONSTER!
FANGED AND FEATHERED
AND I'M SORRY FOR THAT!
The mountain gives us colors and helps us search for more:
they glow beneath the full moon at night.
The desert gives us colors we've never seen before:
Hot air balloons taking flight.
CHORUS
Keep me in your heart!
(I want to stay there)
Keep me in your heart!
(I want to stay there)
Keep me in your heart!
(I want to stay...)
I know I'm showing colors I've never shown before,
and I know there's no excuse.
I know I've said I'm sorry a thousand times before,
but the thousandth time is still the truth!

The Day you were Born
03:16
|
|||
The sun came, and we washed our clothes
in rivers of melted snow!
We held you close,
we kept you warm
the day you were born.
Your mother, she needed to rest;
we buried the old cobweb dress:
that was the last day it was worn,
the very last day it was worn,
the day you were born!
We paraded you through the town
wearing a wildflower crown;
our smiles were well-worn,
our smiles were well-worn
the day you were born!
You smiled and we didn't know when
it could ever be winter again:
you brought us close,
you made us feel so warm
the day you were born!

Colorado
04:07
|
|||
I ran across to Utah, but the desert never thawed;
I was running from the lawless, and running from the Law!
You said it wouldn't come to any good:
If I go back to Colorado,
all it gets me is a mouthful of blood!
The search for easy money is what sent me underground
to a den of sin and sinners: just my kind of crowd!
I'd run heroin or guns if the money's good;
I made my way through Colorado
and I left behind a trail of blood!
Was it a load of cocaine, or was it Aztec gold?
They said I needn't worry just as long as it was sold,
but I had to sink it in the river mud;
If I go back to Colorado,
I'll be paying for it with my blood!
I did some work for Julio, but others called him Juan;
no matter what you call him, I know I'd done him wrong,
but how was I to know she was his wife?
If I go back to Colorado,
I'll be paying for it with my life!
