The Morning was Sacred

The morning was sacred, like most mornings are,
as Santa Fe faded from view.
And the Sunrise had washed out the last of the stars
as I made my way back to you!
This would be my last cargo, my last trip for sure
to pay the last debt that I owed.
Then I'd be with you, and I'd spill no more
coffee on these bumpy roads.
But you said you were lonely, you said you felt stuck,
you told me it didn't seem fair
for you to go so long without a man's touch;
when I got home, you wouldn't be there!
Now I've driven from Detroit to New Mexico:
I've been this way so many years!
I've driven through deserts, through rain and through snow,
but I just can't drive through these tears!
The morning was sacred, like mornings can be
as Santa Fe faded from sight;
Just two more days, baby; oh please, wait for me!
I'll come home and make it alright!
